SCHOOL DAY

The Natchitoches Parish School Board shall require every school under its jurisdiction to conduct a minimum daily session of not less than 360 minutes of instructional time, exclusive of all recesses, provided that this shall not be construed as to prevent half-day sessions where the school accommodations are insufficient for all students of the system in a whole day session.  Two (2) or more partial days may be combined to meet the minimal school year requirement of 177 days of 360 minutes of instructional time.  For schools on a block schedule, school days and classes may be arranged so as to equal the required number of instructional minutes for the school year.  The class schedule shall be altered to assure all classes are conducted during partial days.

The school day shall include, by definition, the daily period of time established by the School Board as the official operating hours of the school for administrative and instructional purposes, as well as cocurricular activities.

The School Board shall require each elementary school to dedicate any instructional time beyond that offered during the 1997-98 school year to the study of those subjects for which content standards have been adopted by the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE).  Specific emphasis shall be placed in the lower grades on teaching mathematics and reading or language arts.

Schools shall be required to open no later than 8:15 a.m. and close no earlier than 2:40 p.m.  The Superintendent shall have the authority to amend these times as conditions warrant.  Any adjustments shall be reported to the School Board.

ELEMENTARY SCHEDULES

Elementary and secondary schedules shall be posted on the wall besides the door of the teacher after opening day of school.  One copy shall be filed in the principal's office and one copy mailed to the School Board office for the use of supervisors.

SIX AND SEVEN PERIOD DAY FOR SECONDARY AND JUNIOR HIGH STUDENTS

Schools following a seven (7) period day shall hold classes of 50 minutes minimum each.  Schools following a six (6) period day shall hold classes of 60 minutes minimum each.
