PROCEEDINGS OF SPECIAL CALLED MEETING OF

NATCHITOCHES PARISH SCHOOL BOARD

HELD ON AUGUST 17, 2020

                                     

                   

A special called meeting of the Natchitoches Parish School Board was held on Monday, August 17, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the Natchitoches Parish School Board Office, 310 Royal Street, Natchitoches, Louisiana, and via zoom media.   Upon roll call, the following members and Superintendent Grant Eloi were present:  Russell Danzy, Emile Metoyer, Billy Benefield, Eugean Garner, Steven Harris, Rhonda Guidroz, Beverly Broadway, Dorothy McGaskey, Tan’Keia Palmer (5:27 p.m.) and Reba Phelps.  Katrina Willis was absent for the meeting.

 

The meeting was called to order by President Billy Benefield, followed by an invocation by Mrs. Guidroz and Pledge of Allegiance by Mr. Metoyer. 

 

Superintendent Eloi and members of the board thanked the citizens of District 7 for their help in the passing of the Consolidated Tax that was on the ballot this past weekend.  An update on the Strong Start for Natchitoches Parish Schools was also given by the Superintendent.  Mr. Eloi reported that the thermal cameras had all been delivered, water fountains were being installed, Ipad cases should ship this week.  Ms. Mary Kate Wells, Central High Class of 1963, donated 200 hand made mask to the parish.  A portion of the masks were accepted by Principal Chrystal Davis of East Natchitoches and Dr. Dylan Solice of Weaver Elementary.  Superintendent Eloi accepted the remainder of the mask to distribute to others in need. 

 

Under Old Business, Mr. Benefield asked the board members to consider two possible dates of September 19th or 22nd for training session with Dr. Pope.

 

A motion was offered by Mr. Garner to approve Tax Exemption Application #20180501-ITE for Alliance Compressors LLC.  The motion was accompanied by a second from Mr. Danzy.  Ms. Laura Lyles spoke in favor or the application on behalf of the A+ Coalition and Chamber of Commerce.  Representatives from Alliance Compressors also presented the board with information and answered any questions.  After much discussion, the following votes were recorded.  YEAS:  Russell Danzy, Billy Benefield, Eugean Garner, Steven Harris, Rhonda Guidroz, Beverly Broadway, Dorothy McGaskey and Reba Phelps.  NAYS:  Emile Metoyer and Tan’Keia Palmer.  ABSENT: Katrina Willis.  The motion passed.

 

A motion was offered by Mrs. Broadway to approve casual-professional dress codes for teachers that will include the option of wearing scrubs/blue jeans as their professional wear as long as we are in phase 3 during the Covid-19 Pandemic.  This dress code is optional for teachers.  The motion was accompanied by a second from Mrs. McGaskey.  After much discussion, the following votes were recorded.  YEAS:  Russell Danzy, Eugean Garner, Steven Harris, Rhonda Guidroz, Beverly Broadway, Dorothy McGaskey, Tan’Keia Palmer and Reba Phelps.  NAYS: Billy Benefield.  ABSENT:  Emile Metoyer and Katrina Willis.  The motion passed.

 

A motion was offered by Mrs. Broadway to adjourn the meeting at 6:17 p.m.  The motion was accompanied by a second from Ms. Phelps and unanimous consent from all members present.
