PROCEEDINGS OF REGULAR MEETING OF

NATCHITOCHES PARISH SCHOOL BOARD

HELD ON MARCH 8, 2012                                         

                                             

A regular meeting of the Natchitoches Parish School Board was held on Thursday, March 8, 2012, at 5:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the Natchitoches Parish School Board Office, 310 Royal Street, Natchitoches, Louisiana, and upon roll call, the following members and Derwood Duke, Secretary-Treasurer, were present:  Cecil Walker, Carroll Daniels, Ralph Wilson, Joella Wilson, Harry Graham, Russell Danzy, Michael Hilton, Donna Masson, Carl Means, Thomas Melder and George Rhymes.  Absent:  None.

                                

Under Superintendent/Staff reports, the Board received:      

 

1.      The Board Update presented by Dr. Duke.

 

2.      State Education proposals and changes before the Legislature by Senator Gerald   Long of District 31 and Representative Kenny Cox of District 23.

 

On motion of Mr. Walker, seconded by Mr. Wilson, and unanimously carried, the Board approved the following consent agenda items:                        

                       

1.        Adoption of Agenda.

 

2.        Approval of Minutes of February 9, 2012

 

3.        FINANCE ITEMS

 

            A.         Payment of Bills: 

                

            B.         Out of State Travel:   

 

(1)        Mary Cedars and Eryn Spears, teachers, Natchitoches Central High School, travel to Arlington, Texas, April 14, 2012, to chaperone YACA students to Six Flags Over Texas.  At no cost to the Board.

 

(2)        Melinda Daniels and Lalania DuBois, teachers, Marthaville Elem./Jr. High School, travel to Houston, Texas, May 4, 2012, to chaperone 5th grade students to the NASA Space Center.  At no cost to the Board.

(1)        Shannon S. Jones, special education paraprofessional, Natchitoches Central. High School, effective February 29, 2012.

 

(2)        Cedric Figaro, teacher, Lakeview High School, effective February 29, 2012.

 

(3)        Dametria Shields, tutor, Vaughn Elem./Middle School, effective March 2, 2012.

Mr. Russell Danzy presented the Finance, Facilities & Insurance Report.

 

On motion of Mr. Danzy, seconded by Mr. Hilton, and with unanimous consent, the Board accepted the highest bid and only bid of Cason Leasing of $2,500 for the sale of “old” Fairview Alpha School.  The Board retains the right to oil, gas and other gaseous hydrocarbons that can be produced through the bore of a well.   The Board authorized the Superintendent/President to sign all necessary contracts and papers.

 

Mr. Harry Graham presented the Personnel Report. 

 

On motion of Mrs. Wilson, seconded by Mr. Wilson, and by voice vote, the Board approved the following personnel:

               

A.         Jamie Joines,  migrant tutor, Cloutierville Elem./Jr. High School, from February 9 - May 22, 2012 for 7 hours per day at  $7.50 per hour. Funded by Migrant (734).

 B.        LeBronte’ Hoover, migrant tutor, Natchitoches Central High School,  from February 22 - May 22, 2012 at 7 hours per day at $7.50 per hour.  Funded by Migrant (734).

C.         Sheila Underwood, remediation interventionist, Lakeview High School, February 14 - May 22, 2012 at 7 hours per day at $20.00 per hour.  Funded by Migrant (734).

 D.        Princess Hines, migrant tutor, Goldonna Elem./Jr. High school, February 27 - May 22, 2012 at 7 hours per day at $7.25 per hour.  Funded by Migrant (734).

 E.        Linda Fobb, secretary, Parks Elem./Middle School, replacing Julia Monette.

 F.        Ashley Prothro, kindergarten tutor, 4 hours per day for 5 days per week, replacing Bonnie Rutledge.

G.         Bryan Stamey, baseball coach, NSU Middle Lab School.

           

On motion of Mr. Danzy, seconded by Mrs. Wilson, the Board approved the following transfers/reassignments:

 

A.         Linda Williams, migrant tutor, Fairview Alpha Elem./Jr. High School, from February 9 – May 22, 2012 at 3 hours per day (43%) at $7.25 per hour.   Funded by Migrant (734).  Ms. Williams is employed as a kindergarten tutor 57% of the time and is paid by general fund.

 

B.         Barbara Wester, special education tutor to special education paraprofessional, Provencal Elem./Jr. High School, replacing Everly McClinton.

 

            C.         Brenda Wallace, special education tutor to special education paraprofessional, Weaver Elementary, replacing Sherry Roberts.

 

D.         Pognyon Im, special education tutor to special education paraprofessional, from Weaver Elementary to Natchitoches Central High School, replacing Shannon Jones.     

 

Mr. Carl Means presented the Executive Report.

 

There were no items to be voted on under the Executive Report.

 

On motion of Mr. Rhymes, seconded by Mr. Hilton, the Board adjourned.
