PROCEEDINGS OF REGULAR MEETING OF

NATCHITOCHES PARISH SCHOOL BOARD

HELD ON OCTOBER 6, 2011

 

 

A regular meeting of the Natchitoches Parish School Board was held on October 6, 2011, at 5:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the Natchitoches Parish School Board Office, 310 Royal Street, Natchitoches, Louisiana, and upon roll call, the following members and Derwood Duke, Secretary-Treasurer, were present:   Carroll Daniels, Ralph Wilson, Joella Wilson, Harry Graham, Russell Danzy, Donna Masson, Carl Means, Thomas Melder and George Rhymes. Absent: Michael Hilton and Cecil Walker.

 

The meeting was called to order by President Daniels, followed by an invocation by Mr. Danzy and Pledge of Allegiance by Mr. Melder.

 

Superintendent Derwood Duke presented the Board Update.  He stated the October 1, 2011 enrollment in the schools was 6867 students. Parish test scores were also presented.  

 

On motion of Mrs. Wilson, seconded by Mr. Wilson, the Board unanimously approved the Natchitoches Parish School Building Level Committee Handbook.

 

On motion of  Mrs. Wilson, seconded by Mr. Wilson, the Board approved the following consent agenda items:

      

 1.        Adoption of Agenda.

 2.        Approval of  Minutes of  September 8, 2011.

 3.        FINANCE ITEMS

            A.         Payment of Bills:

C.         School Bus Routes Changes:

D.         Purchase of Buses:

(2)        Kendra Norris, special education tutor, East Natchitoches Elem./Middle School, effective September 22, 2011.

(3)        Barbara A Lewis, kindergarten tutor, Parks Elem./Middle School, effective September 12, 2011.

(4)        Gilda L. Johnson, ISS teacher, Vaughn Elem./Middle School, effective  September 13, 2011.

Mr. Russell Danzy presented the Finance, Facilities and Insurance Report.

 

On motion of Mr. Danzy, seconded by Mr. Wilson, the Board granted permission to advertise for bids for sale of the ”old” Fairview Alpha School.

     

Mr. Harry Graham presented the Personnel Report. 

 

On motion of Mr. Wilson, seconded by Mr. Graham, the Board approved the following personnel:

 

A.         LaQuita Arnold, kindergarten tutor, Fairview Alpha Elem./Jr. High School, at $7.25 per hour for 4 hours per day and 5 days per week.

B.         Sophia Franklin, RTI tutor, Vaughn Elem./Middle School, at $7.25 per hour for 35 hours per week, replacing Debra Cooper.

C.         Faye Oliver, ELFA reading interventionist, Weaver Elementary School, at $20 per hour for 15 hours per week.  Funded by IDEA..

D.         Cheryl Remo, kindergarten tutor, Parks Elem./Jr. High School, at $7.50 per hour for 4 hours per day and 5 days a week replacing Barbara Lewis.

E.         Georgia Ann Scott, ELFA reading interventionist, Weaver Elementary School, at $20 per hour for 15 hours per week.  Funded by IDEA.

F.         Della Armstrong, special education tutor, Vaughn Elem./Middle School, at $7.50 per hour, not to exceed 35 hours per week.  Funded by IDEA.

G.         Loyise Washington, special education tutor, Parks Elem./Middle School, not to exceed 35 hours per week.  Paid by IDEA.

H.         Brittany Sawyer, reading tutor,  Weaver Elementary School, for 15 hours per week at $7.25 per hour for 33 days.  Funded by Title I School Wide 752.

I.          Diane Doughty, interventionist (as needed),  Weaver Elementary School, for 15 hours per week at $20.00 per hour.  Funded  by Title I School Wide 752.

 

On motion of Mr. Graham, seconded by Mr. Means, and with unanimous consent, the Board approved the following transfers and/or reassignments: 

 

 A.        DeAnna Chadick, from kindergarten teacher to LA4 pre-k teacher, Cloutierville Elem./Jr. High School

 B.        Frances Dunn, kindergarten tutor (general fund) from 7:30 - 11:30 and reading tutor (Title I School Wide 752) from 12:00 - 3:00 at $7.25 per hour, Weaver Elementary School.

 C.        Leah Gordy, kindergarten tutor (general fund) from 7:30 - 11:30 and reading tutor (Title I School Wide 752) and 12:00 - 3:00 at $7.50 per hour, Weaver Elementary School, replacing Mary Squyres.

 D.        April Rechiel Nash, from special education tutor to ISS tutor, Vaughn Elem./Middle School, at 35 hours per week, replacing Gilda Johnson. 

            Funded by Title I.

 E.        Brittany Sawyer, kindergarten tutor (general fund) from 7:30 - 11:30

            and reading tutor (Title I School Wide 752) from 12:00 - 3:00 at $7.25 per hour for 15 hours per week at Weaver Elementary School.

 F.        Amy Metoyer, kindergarten tutor (general fund) from 7:30 - 11:30 and reading tutor, (Title I School Wide 752)  from 12:00 - 3:00  at $7.25 per hour for 15 hours per week at Weaver Elementary School..

 

On motion of Mr. Graham, seconded by Mr. Danzy, the Board unanimously approved  the following personnel items:           

 

A.         The Special Education Contact Persons for 2011-2012 for each school per attached list.  Each school has a one-time stipend of $600.00 for contact persons.  Funded by IDEA.  

 

B.         The SBLC Chairs for 2011-2012 per attached list.  Each school has a one-time stipend of $600.00 (with the exception of Richard Watson). Paid by general fund.

 

C.         Cheryl Shivers to assist schools with student information and school financial records.   Paid by General Fund at $13.00 per hour.

   

Mr. Carl Means presented the Executive Report.

 

On motion of Mr. Means, seconded by Mr. Wilson, the Natchitoches Parish School Board Family Involvement Policy for 2011-2012.

 

On motion of Mr. Danzy, seconded by Mrs. Wilson, the Board adjourned.
