NATCHITOCHES PARISH SCHOOL BOARD

HELD ON JUNE 9, 2011

                                      

                                                                   

A regular meeting of the Natchitoches Parish School Board was held on Thursday, June 9, 2011, at 5:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the Natchitoches Parish School Board Office, 310 Royal Street, Natchitoches, Louisiana and upon roll call, the following members and Derwood Duke, Secretary-Treasurer, were present:  Cecil Walker, Carroll Daniels, Ralph Wilson, Joella Wilson, Harry Graham, Russell Danzy, Michael Hilton, Donna Masson, Carl Means, Thomas Melder and George Rhymes.   Absent:  None.

 

The meeting was called to order by President Daniels, followed by an invocation by Mr. Danzy and Pledge of Allegiance by Mr. Walker.                     

 

Dr. Derwood Duke presented the Board Update.

   

On motion of Mr. Walker, seconded b Mr. Danzy, the Board unanimously approved the following consent agenda items:     

 

 1.        Adoption of Agenda.

 

 2.        Approval of Minutes of May 5, 2011.

 

 3.        FINANCE ITEMS

 

            A.         Payment of Bills:

C.         School Bus Routes Changes:

 

(1)        Jacqueline Metoyer, Cloutierville Elem./Jr. High School, increase of  9.1 miles one way due to bridge out on Hwy 1 & Hwy 493 from 4-18-2011 to 5-25-2011,  for a cost of $329.28.

(2)        Fredda Burns, Cloutierville Elem./Jr. High School, increase of 8.2 miles for 1 day due to fallen tree for a cost of $42.30.

(3)        Meshelle Miley, Natchitoches Central High School, increase of 7.1 miles for a cost of $310.30.

(4)        Roger Matkin, Provencal Elem./Jr. High School, increase in 3.1miles for a cost of  $201.24.

H.         Requests for Leave:    

 

Mr. Russell Danzy presented the Finance, Facilities, Services and Insurance Report.

 

On motion of Mr. Danzy, seconded by Mr. Wilson, and unanimously carried, the Board approved the following low bids meeting specifications for the following: 

                       

a.         Jim’s South for liquefied gas service for schools in the amount of $1.85 per gallon for the 2011-12 school year.

b.         IESI  for non-hazardous waste management services in the amount of $1,214.80 per month for 2011-12 school year.

                       

On motion of Mr. Wilson, seconded by Mr. Hilton, the Board granted permission to exercise renewal option for pest control bid with Ralston Exterminating Company for 2011-12 school year.

 

On motion of Mr. Danzy, seconded by Mr. Means, the Board unanimously approved a Demolition Services Agreement with ASC Environmental   Services, LLC to remove debris from gymnasium located at the old Fairview Alpha School site.  

 

On motion of Mr. Danzy, seconded by Mrs. Wilson, the Board approved  beginning negotiations with Storer Equipment Company to perform preventive maintenance work on heating/cooling systems within the Natchitoches Parish School System.

 

Mr. Harry Graham presented the Personnel Report.

 

On motion of Mr. Graham, seconded by Mr. Wilson, and with unanimous consent, the Board approved the following personnel agenda items:

 

    1.     Approval of Personnel:

           

A.         Vanessa Birdwell, teacher, Provencal Elem./Jr. High School, replacing Michael Jordan.

B.         Jessica Odom, teacher, Natchitoches Central High School, new position.

C.         Jacquetta Tanner, teacher, Vaughn Elem./Middle School, replacing Regina Brossett.

D.         Henry Jones, 9 month custodian, Natchitoches Central High School, replacing Bobby Lewis.

E.         Marjorie Cotton, teacher, Lakeview High School, replacing Christopher Boyd.

F.         Donna Lindsey, 9 month custodian, Provencal Elem./Jr. High School, replacing Leonard Bennett.         

           

    2.     Transfers and/or Reassignments:

 

A.         Eugene Cloud, special education teacher, from Frankie Ray Jackson to Fairview Alpha Elem./Jr. High School, replacing Monia Jackson.

B.         Natalie Ducote, teacher, from Weaver Elementary School to Provencal Elem./Jr. High School, replacing Carol Julie Maggio.

C.         Christopher Kuykendall, teacher, from Frankie Ray Jackson to Natchitoches Central High School, replacing Ollie Moore.

D.         Latonzia Gillie, special education teacher, from Weaver Elementary School to Vaughn Elem./Middle School, replacing Millicint Hoffpauir.

E.         Susan Godfrey, teacher, from Natchitoches Central High School to Weaver Elementary School, replacing Christopher Moon.

F.         Millicint Hoffpauir, special education teacher, from Vaughn Elem./Middle School to Weaver Elementary School, replacing Latonzia Gillie.

 

   3.      The attached list of Kids City staff for June 2011 for 22 days.  

                                                  

   4.      The following counselors to work on summer scheduling at a rate of $20.00 per hour:

 

 

            Funded by Carl Perkin’s Grant.

 

  5.       The attached list of Summer School Leap Remediation Teachers.

 

6.       Christina Coney for summer school at Vaughn Elem./Middle School in June for 22 days for 6 hours per day at $7.50 per hour.   Funded by Migrant Education.  

 

7.       Kenneth Nolley to work for Kids’ City Summer Program at Vaughn Elem./Middle School in June for 22 days for 6 hours per day at $7.25 per hour. Funded by Migrant Education.

 

Mr. Carl Means presented the Executive Report.

 

On motion of Mr. Means, seconded by Mr. Rhymes, and with unanimous voice vote, the Board approving the Natchitoches Times as the official journal for the Natchitoches Parish School Board.   

 

On motion of Mrs. Wilson, seconded by Mr. Means, the Board adjourned.
