PROCEEDINGS OF REGULAR MEETING OF

NATCHITOCHES PARISH SCHOOL BOARD

HELD FEBRUARY 10, 2005                                      

                                      

A regular meeting of the Natchitoches Parish School Board was held on Thursday, February 10, 2005, at 5:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the Natchitoches Parish School Board Office, 310 Royal Street, Natchitoches, Louisiana, and upon roll call, the following members and Elwanda Murphy, Secretary-Treasurer were present: Cecil Walker, Carroll Daniels, Julia Hildebrand, Millard J. Bienvenu, Russell Danzy, Emile Metoyer, Joella Wilson, Gladys Revels, Billy J. Benefield and Carl Means.   Absent:  Ralph Wilson.

 

The meeting was called to order by President Danzy, followed by an invocation by Mr. Daniels and Pledge of Allegiance by Mrs. Hildebrand.

 

Under Superintendent/Staff Reports, the Board received the Board Update from Dr. Murphy and Mr. Mack Johnson, Band Director, Natchitoches Central High School, reported on the band at Natchitoches Central High School.

    

On motion of Mr Walker, seconded by Mrs. Revels, the Board unanimously approved the consent agenda items:

 

 1.        Adoption of Agenda.

 2.        Approval of Minutes of January 13, 2005

 

 3.        FINANCE ITEMS:

 

A.         Payment of Bills:     

    

B.         Out of State Travel:

 

(1)        Cheryl Johnson and Kathleen Dollar, special education department, central office, travel to Baltimore, MD  April 5-10, 2005, to attend the CEC National Convention.   Funded by IDEA.

(2)        Barbara Page and Shawna Hicks, teachers, Natchitoches Central High School, travel to Grapevine, Texas, February 11-12, 2005, to attend a workshop called "Dream Dinners" for a school based enterprise or major fund raising project.

(3)        Sue Rodriguez, teacher, NSU Elementary School, travel to Springfield, Massachusetts, March 10-14, 2005, to attend the National Conference of the Organization of American Kodaly Educators.   Funded by School Budget.

(4)        Syll-Young Olson and Wayne Choate, teacher and assistant principal, Natchitoches Central High School, travel to New York, New York, April 13-19, 2005, to chaperone students to participate in the Fiesta-Val Invitational Music Festival.  $500.00 from Talent Funds will be used toward transportation.

(2)        Courtney Busby, special education tutor, Weaver Elementary School.

(3)        Tenona Hudson, paraprofessional, Natchitoches Education Center, effective 2-1-05.

(4)        Sonya Hall, child specific aide, Natchitoches Central High School, 2-4-05.

(5)        Susie Pardee, paraprofessional, Fairview Alpha Elementary School, effective 2-3-05.

 

G.         Retirements:

 

(1)        Doyle Withers, bus driver, Marthaville Elem./Jr. High School, effective 1-21-05.

(2)        Barbara B. Jackson, paraprofessional, Parks Elementary School, effective June 1, 2005.

(3)        Angie B. Robinson, paraprofessional, Parks Elementary School, effective June 1, 2005.

(4)        Yvonne Donoway, speech therapist, Lakeview High School, effective 3-21-05.

           

Mr. Billy Benefield presented the Finance Report.

 

On motion of Mr. Benefield, seconded by Mr. Means, and with unanimous voice vote, the Board approved the Carl D. Perkins Carryover Budget in the amount of $2,445.00.   

 

Dr Millard Bienvenu presented the Personnel Report.

    

On motion of Mr. Metoyer, seconded by Mrs. Wilson, and unanimously carried, the Board approved the following personnel items:

 

   1.      Approval of Personnel:

 

A.         Makesha Gallien, LEAP tutor, NSU Elem./Middle Lab School, replacing Demarius Payne at $7.50 per hour for 8 hours per week.

B.         Keisha Gibson, special education tutor, Lakeview Jr./Sr. High School, replacing James Drayton at $7.50 per hour, not to exceed 35 hours per week. .

C.         William Cartright, special education  tutor, Natchitoches Education Center  at $7.50 per hour, not to exceed 35 hours per week.

D.         Erica Jackson, special education tutor, Weaver Elementary School,replacing Courtney Busby at $7.50 per hour, not to exceed 35 hours per week.

E.         Daniel Yount, substitute tutor for After School for All, Fairview Alpha Elementary School.

F.         Pearl Raymond, full-time school food service technician, Natchitoches Central High School, replacing Sharon Holland.          

G.         Christa Riolo, special education paraprofessional, Fairview Alpha Elementary School, replacing Susie Pardee

H.         Jana Fryday, child specific aide, Natchitoches Central High School, replacing Sonya Hall.           

 

2.        The attached revised list of LEAP 21Tutors for 2004-05.

 

3.        A coaching stipend for Eric Hardaway for assistant softball coach for the 2005 season at Natchitoches Central High School.  Paid according to salary schedule.

 

4.         Jean McElwee and Rebecca Bruce for substitute teachers at Weaver Elementary and Parks Elementary for the After School for All Program to be paid $20.00 per hour.   The work to be performed afternoons when needed and in summer school.  Funded by After School for All.  

 

5.         The attached personnel list for the 21st Century after school programs at four sites funded by the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant.  The grant funding period is from December 15, 2004-June 30, 2005.

 

6.         Kevin Warner, assistant baseball coach, Natchitoches Central High School, for the spring semester to be paid according to salary schedule.    

 

Mr. Means presented the Executive Report.

 

On motion of Mr. Means, seconded by Mrs. Wilson, the Board unanimously approved the school calendar for 2005-2006.    

 

On motion of Mr. Means, seconded by Mr. Benefield, the Board adjourned.
